WEATHER                      DRY BUT GREY

DISTANCE                      ABOUT 11 MILES

START / FINISH                 CAR PARK AT SIMONSIDE

Today’s walk was going to be a training walk, I had once again been fixed up by the limb centre, and came away with a nice new hydraulic cylinder and a new springy bit on my foot, now on paper this shouldn’t have made no difference to my ability to walk, however in real life it makes a huge difference, so the purpose of today’s walk was for me and arty leg to get to know each other , once that had been established I would try it out on different types of terrain , from hard forestry tracks , boulder strewn paths , soft grassy paths to wet boggy paths across the moors .then throw in a bit of practice on going up and the dreaded downhill bits , then finally a bit of walking on chambers so that was the plan, a chance remark from a work mate about the condition of the paths at Tosson hill and the discovery of an old house in Harwood forest got me thinking ….why not , the area has all the right sort of terrain for me to sort out arty leg so that was it . No real route was planned other than Tosson Hill and the building at Chartners other than that I would go where I wanted.

It was a good day, totally knackering but I think that a lot of that was due to the mental side of gaining the trust of your leg again, or I could just be totally unfit, on the down side they where busy harvesting the trees in various places so I didn’t get to see any deer apart from a couple of white bum flashes as they buggered off away from me before I got a photo.

On the good side I did find a small pond which was teaming with frogs and newts and saw a couple of squirrels

TAKEN FROM THE CAR PARK LOOKING TOWARDS THE SIMONSIDE CRAGS (NOT MY ROUTE TODAY )

SAME VIEW JUST FURTHER ALONG

LOOKING UP TOWARDS RAVENS HAUGH WHERE I WILL LEAVE THE WOODS FOR A WHILE AND GET ONTO THE MOORS

LOOKING BACK TOWARDS THE CRAGS AT SIMONSIDE , ITS A PITY ABOUT THE GREY MISTY WEATHER , I SEEM TO GET A LOT OF DAYS LIKE THIS AT THE MOMENT .

AT TOSSON HILL LOOKING OUT TOWARDS WHERE THE CHEVIOTS SHOULD BE

THE TRIG POINT

MY ROUTE MILES OF HEATHER AND BOGS , STILL THIS IS WHAT I CAME HERE FOR A BIT OF TRAINING .............SIGH!

ONE OF THE MANY SANDSTONE ROCKS THAT ARE SCATTERED ABOUT ON BODDLE MOSS

MY ROUTE CLEARLY SHOWN , THEY HAVE BEEN BURNING THE HEATHER AND THE SMELL OF SMOKE IS STILL IN THE AIR .

LOOKING BACK AT THE SANDSTONE CRAGS , IF THEY HAVE A NAME I DONT KNOW IT

A BIT FURTHER ALONG , I HAVE TO ADMIT ITS QUITE EASY WALKING HERE THERE IS A WELL TRODDEN PATH TO FOLLOW AND ITS NOT TO WET

NOW BACK IN HARWOOD FOREST , THEY ARE BUSY HARVISTING AND HAVE UPGRADED THE TRACKS ............EASY WALKING .

THE HOUSE AT CHARTNERS , NOT SURE WHAT IT IS GOING TO USED FOR , ITS PARTLY BEEN DONE UP (FRONT WINDOWS) BUT THE REST LOOKS A WRECK, THERE ARE LOTS OF WOODEN TABLES AND SEATS OUTSIDE MAYBE A OUTDOOR CENTRE ?

NOW WALKING PAST WHERE THEY ARE BUSY , I THINK THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONS THAT I DIDNT SEE ANY DEER TODAY

A BIT OF AN OLD RUIN , I REALLY NEED TO READ UP ON WHAT IT USE TO BE .(BUT AS NORMAL I WILL FORGET )

RAF JET DOING A LOW LEVEL FLY PAST , WE OFTEN GET THEM UP HERE .

LOOKING TOWARDS THE BACK OF THE SIMONSIDE CRAGS

TIME TO START CUTTING DOWN INTO THE FOREST AGAIN , I HAVE PICKED THIS TRAIL SO I CAN PRACTISE WALKING OVER SOME VERY UNEVEN AND ROCKY GROUND (THATS WHY I AM HERE TODAY)

BIT FURTHER ALONG

LAST BIT NOW ONLY A MILE AWAY FROM THE CAR AND THE GROUND STARTS TO GET VERY EASY TO WALK ON AGAIN .

A GOOD DAYS WALKING , I WAS  KNACKERED BY THE TIME I GOT BACK TO THE CAR BUT I THINK THAT WAS MORE OF A MENTAL THING . THE ARTY LEG BEHAVED ITSELF AND EVEN IF I SAY SO MYSELF I GOT ON PRETTY WELL WITH IT .
